WERNER VOSS + 23.9.1917

Dnes uplynulo 95 let od smrti legendárního německého stíhacího letce Wernera Vosse. Jeho boj s přesilou B Flightu 56. Squadron patří mezi epické události historie válečného letectví. Dvacetiletý letec, který soutěžil o pozici nejlepšího stíhače Manfredem von Richthofenem. Oba získali své ostruhy pod vedením legendárního Boelckeho. V osudný den Voss sestřelil britský dvoumístný bombardér DH.4 (48. vítězství). Werner Voss měl v ten den odjet na dovolenou a na letišti na něj čekal otec s bratrem. Evidentně se cítil ve špičkové formě a chtěl na dovolenou odjet s kulatou "padesátkou" na kontě. Následný boj, v němž Voss přišel o život, ukázal že ve špičkové formě skutečně byl. Bojoval sám proti šestici vynikajících britských letců a žádný z jejich strojů neunikl poškození. Nakonec však mladý letec přesile podlehl a jeho ostatky dodnes leží tam, kde v momentě jeho smrti bylo mezi frontovými zákopy území nikoho.

Today, 95 years have passed since the death of the legendary German fighter pilot Werner Voss. His fight against the overwhelming force of 56th Squadron´s B Flight is one of the epic events wartime aviation history. Twenty years old aviator competed for the position of the best fighter with Manfred von Richthofen. Both earned their spurs under the guidance of legendary Boelcke. On the fateful day Voss shot down a British two-seat bomber DH.4 (48th victory). On the very same day Werner Voss had to start on vacation and at the airport he was awaited by his father and brother. Obviously he felt in top form and wanted to go on holiday with a round "fifty" on the account. The subsequent fight in which Voss lost his life, showed that he really was in top form. He fought alone against six great British airmen and none of their machines escaped damage. Ultimately, however, outnumbered young airman died and his remains still lie in the place where no man's-land in the moment of his death.

Voss se v tu chvíli plně soustředil na stroj před sebou.
In that moment Voss was fully concentrated on the 
opponent in fron of him.

A nevšiml si, že zezadu z jeho pravé strany se k němu blíží 

další SE 5, pilotovaný Hoidgem.
And he did not recognize another SE 5, piloted by Hoidge
 who was  attacking from 4 - 5 o´clock

Toto byl asi jeden z momentů, na které McCudden nikdy 

nezapomněl.
This was probably one of the sights that McCudden has 
never forgotten.

   Po Hoidgeově střelbě a zásazích dalších Britů se Voss zřítil

   do území nikoho a jeho letoun se rozpadl na kusy.
   After Hoidge´s fire and attacks by others, Voss´s triplane 
   has crashed in no man´s land and was destroyed to pieces.
